Ik vreesde onderweg al voor het QS/Stannard scenario.
Jammer genoeg voor Van Aert werd de vrees werkelijkheid.

Tom Boonen zou toen ook ook nooit de sprint verliezen.

Maar de quicksteppers probeerden wél vooraf elk apart weg te geraken, maar /Stannard haalde hen elke keer terug.

Van Aert heeft het toch eerlijk toegegeven.
" Ik was te egoïstisch en koos voor mezelf in plaats van voor de ploeg".
En dan krampen en de ander die beter was.

Je weet toch dat je moet kiezen wie er voor Wout gaat finishen als je wil winnen?

Zou je nu wel denken, helaas zover is men nog niet. Wout bouwt wel mooi verder aan zijn palmares.

De grap is natuurlijk dat het ook niet helemaal een grap is. In deze situatie moet je altijd om de beurt demarreren. De kans dat Powless op het wiel van Aert gaat rijden is vrij groot. Daarmee is de kans dat Wout wint kleiner dan 1/3.

Deze situatie is overduidelijk een gevolg van de druk die zowel Wout als de ploeg ervaren. Het positieve(?): Het "ik moet just niks" is er wel vanaf en ook de ploeg heeft zich beseft dat ze een gigantische ereschuld hebben openstaan.

Weliswaar in het Engels maar deze van Demi Vollering is te mooi om niet te posten.

You train a bit harder, focus a bit more, and before you know it, you are lost in your rituals, running on autopilot, trying to prove everyone wrong, trying to get just a bit closer to your dreams.
And before you know it, you make the wrong decisions and you cramp up. Maybe it was not the body. Maybe it was the mind that got too excited. But you did not stay true to yourself, so this win was not meant to be.
It is a lesson. A wake up call for Visma and Wout, but not just for them. It is a lesson and a wake up call for all of us.
He is human. We are all human. I think I have been in his situation. You think you are making the right decisions, but under too much pressure, under too much focus, you cannot see it anymore.

Ik zie in de sprint van gisteren dat van Aert niet 100% in vorm is.
Een goede van Aert wint normaal gesproken deze sprint met twee vingers in de neus.
Dus ik heb mijn bedenkingen of hij zondag mee kan als de toppers echt op de pedalen gaan staan.
Voor hem is te hopen dat het resultaat van de hoogtestage boven komt op het juiste moment.

Dat was maar om al diegenen die vinden dat Wout niets te zien heeft in een Nederlandse ploeg ook de andere kant te laten zien.
Ik denk zelfs dat in dit specifieke geval elke ploegleider zijn geld op Wout Van Aert had gezet.

Ik had ook wel vertrouwd op zijn sprint, maar dan op basis van zijn kunnen, niet zijn nationaliteit.

Los daarvan: 3:1 moet je altijd uitspelen. Die sprint is dan je vangnet.

Ik had de post van Demi ook gezien, goed verhaal. Lijkt wel of er bij haar ook een knop is om gegaan als je ziet hoe ze sinds deze winter communiceert. Hopelijk gaan we dat ook in koers zien.
