Ik zag dat deze getalenteerde tijdrijder nog geen eigen topic had, en gezien zijn prestatisch bij het wk kan dat natuurlijk niet.

In ieder geval geeft hij mij nog de hoop om ooit zelf nog aan het WK mee te kunnen doen mocht het me lukken om het Tuvalaans staatsburgerschap te krijgen voor mijn 80ste.

BVI Gets Its First International Professional Cyclist

Virgin Islander, Mr. Darel Christopher Jr. is the Territory’s first International Professional Cyclist.

Mr. Christopher’s license was sanctioned by the International Cycling Union.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn who is also the Minister responsible for Sports, said he is very proud of Mr. Christopher Jr.’s achievements.

Honourable Walwyn said, “It seems that even before he could walk, he could cycle and became a formidable cyclist here in the Virgin Islands, winning numerous cycling competitions. It shows that hard work, perseverance and remaining focused on the target will bring personal and international rewards.”

Honourable Walwyn added, “I extend best wishes and continued success to Darel Christopher Jr. as he embarks on this new chapter of his career. I also extend congratulations to his parents on this milestone achievement.”

Minister Walwyn further stated, “I am encouraging all the BVI Cycling Associations and all the coaches and trainers to continue developing the Territory’s young cyclists. The Ministry of Education and Culture will continue to support cycling and all our athletes.”

Mr. Christopher Jr. has long been known for being a Virgin Islands cycling champion, having won several local races over the years.

He has represented the Territory at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico and at the Caribbean Junior Cycling Championships and the Caribbean Senior Cycling Championships.

The Ministry of Education and Culture continues to support Virgin Islands’ athletes and young persons by ensuring that the Territory’s youth excel and create a culture of excellence for themselves, and by extension, the Virgin Islands.

Ik vind hem ook zeer inspirerend, niet alleen dat ik zou kunnen deelnemen aan het WK (mits ik dat Surinaamse paspoort weet binnen te halen), maar dat er zelfs een kans is dat ik niet als laatste eindig

Maar serieus, waarom mocht hij meefietsen? Moet de UCI minimaal zoveel nationaliteiten aan de start moet hebben om een olympische sport te blijven?
